QuestionWhile installing a septic system the excavators destroyed approximately 75% of the root system around an existing large ( 75' or so ) pine tree. My question is, what chance does this tree have to survive this shock? This is Massachusetts in the dormant( March ) season.
AnswerIf I understand you right 75& of the circumference of the tree was dug up and the roots destroyed. IF 75% of the trees root system was destroyed the chances of the tree making it is slim. The best case would be severe die back of the foliage. I would wait and see--the problem will come this summer during drought conditions.
