QuestionI live in Fort Lauderdale Fl. My neighbor removed his beautiful ficus hedge and most of his tress to redo his backyard. I bought this house 18 months ago and had 100% privacy coverage from my neighbor now we share our backyards and it is horrible. Noise level is higher, exposed to street views now .... Please help me choose a fast growing hedge that will help block views and sounds. The properties a close to each other so I need to keep it as a hedge that has no more then 3 feet width. Thanks Marie-Eve
AnswerI would suggest Waxleaf Ligustrum, Ligustrum japonicum 'Texanum'.
Waxleaf Ligustrum is a vigorous evergreen shrub with a compact upright growth habit. The glossy dark green leaves are a popular choice for formal and informal hedges. Unsheared plants produce a profusion of white blossoms in the spring, followed by dark blue berries. These versatile plants are extremely hardy and can be shaped into globes, pyramids, or other attractive shapes. If desired, this plant can also be grown into small tree form. Because of the versatile nature of this plant, it can be used in a variety of landscape situations and locations.
You can prune it to what ever height or shape you want. Average Landscape Size: 8 feet tall by 5 feet wide
I would plant them about three feet apart and they should fill in as a solid hedge. If you have the space you can stagger them in two rows about five feet apart in the rows this will give a deeper thicker hedge.
Check with your local nursery for these OR they might suggest another similar type species.
