QuestionHi Jim
I would like to plant a row of green giants along a fence my concern is they are going to be about 8 feet fron an inground gunite pool, will the roots possibly damage the pool ?
Thanks
Answer8 feet away you should not have any problems with the roots. The normal spread of the branches is 5 feet when planted on rows and the roots will go out about 7 1/2 feet from the trunk normally. Also the root away from the tree will be smaller feeder roots and are not a problem. Tree roots will turn when they hit a hard surface like the pool unless there is a crack and water is seeping out then the roots will grow that direction. This should not be a problem. I would keep the thujas pruned back to a small size width wise just to keep the limb from growing over toward the pool area and walkway around the pool.
