QuestionWe were given bare root cypress (probably Bald) from the Arbor Day program.
We are restoring a pond in Land O Lakes Florida. They seem to grow close
together in Nature and I like this. What is the closest together we can plant
them in the edge of the pond?
AnswerThese trees get large so if you want the look of a hedge for the first 10 years or so I would plant them about 3-5 feet apart. This will give a solid growth of tree You can plant them any distance apart you want but as they get older the lower limbs will be shaded and drop off. If you want a fuller limbier tree when it is older then I would say the 6-8 foot range is better in the long run.
