transplanting a conifer seedling

Question
Hi.  I live in WI and over the summer transplanted a volunteer conifer seedling (~4" tall)--not sure what variety--into a 1/2-gallon bucket.  It made it through the summer great, but now with Fall coming (and harsh Winter after that) trying to determine the best way to keep the little guy alive.  Should I bring it inside?  or tranplant into ground?  When?  Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Answer
I would not bring it in the house but on a porch, garage or a non heated covered place will be fine. I would let it grow until it gets about 10-- 12 inches tall and then transplant it to where you want it to grow. You do need to keep it watered this winter--soil not wet but damp. Then transplant it out in the early spring before the hardwoods leaf out.
