QuestionI have an aquaitance who has just planted two Blue point junipers and a few low growing junipers. For the first three months they did well. Now they have pretty much died down to nothing. He said all the branches on the top are brown inside when he prunes it. I haven't seen it yet but I'll go look at it at his request. Just from talking with him it sounded like they might have gotten stressed with the 106 degree weather. He never treated it with B-1 but he followed watering and planting directions as best as I can tell. To hot? Will they grow back if you prune it to green and B-1 them?
Answerdepends on where you are. i'm in southern, NJ...
he probably didn't water it properly. he probably watered too frequently or didn't give it enough water per watering. never water late in the evening unless it is absolutely necessary.
nature doesn't water once a day or once a week. watering is uusually the #1 reason for killing plants in pots and in the ground.
it's not as simple as "water everyday or once a week". each type plant has its own watering requirements. watering frequency depends on many factors(sun exposure, type of plant, wind, day temps, indoors VS outdoor location, etc.).
plants in the ground need watering only during prolonged dry spells. once a week may be too often during cloudy or cooler weather. may be too little during hot sunny weather.
you shouldn't fertilize during hot weather. i add (mix in)peat humus-compost when i plant and fertilize w/hollytone(espoma product) once in the fall and again in the spring.
get to a local garden center/nursery and quiz them on a solution to your problem. buy your products from them and they should be more than happy to help you.
good luck.
