QuestionI have a bald cyprus that is about 12 to 15 feet tall that has started showing signs of pest infestation. The limbs have a web that wraps the leaves. There are small black bugs of some kind in the webs. There are no signs of bagworms, but I have no idea what those things are or how to get rid of them. Any ideas on what it is and how to get remove it?
AnswerSounds like cypress webworm. Like most insects of this type these can be controlled by using a contact insecticide such as Sevin or Orthene. Check with your local nusery/garden type store for a liquid Sevin or Orthene. Spray the web and surrounding foliage with the spray mixture. It usually only takes one application but if some are missed a second application a couple of days after the first should give complete control.
