how do you get seeds from lyland cypress

Question
Can you obtain seeds from a leland cypress tree or can you use cuttings from the tree to make seedlings grow?  I have several 3 year-old trees, but I need about 100 for my property line and I was just wondering if I could get seedlings from my trees and if so, how do I do so?  Thank You

Answer
as they are conifers they produce seeds in their cone structures. you need to wait until the cones ripen and produce seeds. i'm not sure at what age leland cypress start producing cones and/or seeds. find leland cypress on your search engine to research your project.
if you are knowledgeable on plant reproduction from vegetative cuttings it is quite easy. cut a 4" tip off a branch. remove the bottom 1/2 of leaves. dip it in a rooting hormone. insert the cutting into a good pre-wetted soil medium and firm it in w/your fingers. place a plastic sheet over the pot and plant supporting it w/sticks so the plastic does not touch the foliage. makes a minie greenhouse. set it in an area that does not get direct sunlite. the plastic will increase the humidity and prevent the soil from drying out too quickly. in about 2-3 weeks it should develop roots. periodically open the plastic to see if it has rooted. transplant your cutting into a larger pot as it gets bigger. when it's big enough transplant it into the ground. sounds simple...and it is if you know what you are doing.
visit a local garden center/nursery to help you start your project. buy your products from them & they should be glad to get you started.
good luck
