Questioni have 2 white pines planted in my yard roughly about 5 feet tall that have been in the current location since about 2-3 feet tall. i am interested in moving them to a different location. when would be the ideal time to do this(time of year), i live in cleveland ohio. also, are there any tips you can give me to avoid harming this tree in any way, and what to do once it is in its new location to help it recover. thank you.
Answernow would be the best time to transplant while they are still in their dormant stage. dig a nice size rootball(24"x24" or bigger). keep the rootballs intact as much as possible while transplanting them. make a saucer around the tree w/the excess dirt from the hole to help collect water when it rains. give them 5 gallons of water after transplanting. then once every 7-14 days do the same during hot dry weather. most people kill them by watering too frequently. visit a local garden center/nursery and buy some Espoma hollytone fertilizer. ask them how to apply it.
i'm from NJ, but graduated from OU in the 70's.
good luck
