Narrow Pines or Firs

Question
I have an area about 25 ft in length that has a 5ft high chainlink fence. On either side of this 25' length, I have 18 yr old white pines about 40 ' high. I would like to place 2 narrow pines or firs within that 25' line.  Can you recommend a narrow (subjectively speaking) tree that would serve my purpose? I am located in Cleveland, Ohio and the area has full sunlight. I love Hemlock (not the poison) and Norway pines. Would either of these be OK?
Respectfully yours,

Answer

Hemlocks, although they prefer shade will grow reasonably in full sunlight. I'm assuming you are referring to eastern hemlock, whereas I'm more familiar with western hemlock which has a pretty wide crown.

The norway pine has a fairly open canopy, not nearly as dense as the hemlock.

If you are looking at other potential, especially native trees, you may consider the balsam fir, red spruce or eastern red cedar.

If you start considering ornamentals, then you have a vast array and you may want to check a local nursery for species that provide the attributes you are looking for.
