Question
plant plant2
Hi-
I have a basil plant on my window sill. The plant is thriving, except it gets back spots, and is missing pieces around the edges of some leaves. I have looked all over and don't see any bugs, however, it looks like something is munching away at it. I attached to photos.
Do I have bugs on the plant or is this something else?
Thanks-jeremy
AnswerThe spots I can see in the photo almost look like the result of overwatering. It is a bit hard to tell from the photo.
I would suggest removing the leaves with dark spots and checking the moisture of the soil before watering. To check the soil moisture, stick your finger (up to the first knuckle) into the soil. The soil should be almost dry before you water again. Check it regularly but do not water on a schedule. Does the pot have drainage?
You can go ahead and start using your basil now. If you cut back the main stem down to just above the lowest four leaves that will cause the plant to get bushier and you will get more leaves as a result. Whatever you cut off can be used in salads, pasta sauce, or any recipe which calls for basil.
Let me know what happens.
