Questionwe bought a house in the South Plains area of Texas one year ago. There are established 3-foot tall Rosemary plants near the south side of our home. The yard is enclosed with a 6' fence. Last fall I cut brown, dried branches off the plants. However, this spring half the remaining plants have turned brown and are dying. No insect damage has been found. The yard is watered 10 minutes 3 times weekly as advised by local, professional gardeners. We have had a dry, windy spring. How can I save these plants?
AnswerBryce:
Normally rosemary this old and start dying usually can be from being water logged for any lengthof time. Soggy rosemary roots is a death sentence for rosemary. Also being deprived of water for a length of time. Pruning at wrong time of year. Lack of lime and or fertilizer. I use liquid fish/seaweed every 3 weeks for mine. It seems like the over watering and the wind. Rosemary hates too much wind. Your next plants should have good drainage with sand and or gravel mixed in composted soil.
