Rosemary and Basil growth

Question
Hello again, Mr. Wilton,

I live in a zone 10-11 area and am growing rosemary and basil in pots.  The problem is that my rosemary is either not growing or is growing extremely slow for me to notice.  My basil is growing but very slowly.  I transplanted both of them to bigger pots since I noticed the roots were starting to overgrow but it didn't change anything.  I wonder if it has to do anything with the intense sun I've been getting here because my patio gets about 6 to 7 hours of direct sunlight before the sun moves away.  I try not to water them too much (about 2 or 3 days apart).  I don't use any fertilizers so maybe that's it?  Any suggestions?

Answer
Sean:
Both plants need morning sun first. Basil definitely need the sun all day. The root system of basil grows fast and will come out of pot & become woody quicker. It must be pruned every 3 weeks or earlier. Star at top of each branch and pruned 1/3 down. Feed with an organic fertilizer like fish emulsion every 3 weeks also. Rosemary must be water very sparingly. Never over water. Rosemary must be pruned too. It will stay healthier when you do this. The fish/seaweed fertilizer is the best. Found at good nurseries or health food stores.

Good luck

Leroy
