Lemon Balm

Question
Hi, Elyse,

I'm interested in planting lemon balm in my 12" deep, 14" wide pot.  I don't know how deep lemon balm roots extend but would that size be big enough?

Answer
Sean:
I don't think Lemon Balm has real deep roots, but the pot you're considering is still rather small. Lemon Balm is a small shrub - it gets about 2 feet tall and probably 3' wide. You might be able to keep it trimmed to fit the pot, but it's not really the kind of shrub that takes pruning well. It also self-seeds readily and profusely. I usually cut mine down to the ground when it starts flowering, that keeps it from going to seed and keeps its growth in check at the same time.
