QuestionHi, Mr. Wilton,
Thanks for answering my previous question so quickly. I've read that herbs don't need high quality soil and even some will grow well in poor soil. I prefer not to use any fertilizers for my herbs which I'm growing for culinary use and would rather just let nature take its course. However, I wouldn't want to deprive the herbs of necessary nutrients. This brings up my question to you of whether fertilizers are necessary for growing herbs. Many thanks for your help!
AnswerSean:
True, you can have poor soil, but need some nutrients to have the plant absorb to give maximum growth. I have been using liquid seaweed & fish emulsion for 27 years. I have experienced excellent growth & health from this product. Liquid fish emulsion by itself is 2nd best. There are organic dry fertilizers that do well also. Add 1 tablespoon of liquid to 1 gallon of water.Add 1 teaspoon of liquid baby castile soap to mix also, stir gently. Feed every 3 weeks during growing season, especially when blooms appear. Also prune from the top down 1/3 on each branch at the same time.
