QuestionI grow culinary herbs in pots on my window sills (city dweller). I have a 7 1/2" wide terra cotta pot planted with spearmint that I bought last spring. I use mint a lot. The plant has stopped forming large leaves typical of spearmint and instead produces leggy branches with tiny leaves. I'm guessing the plant might have overgrown the pot but I don't have room for a larger one. Is that the likely problem? How can I get it to produce large leaves once again? Thanks!
AnswerRon:
It is probably not getting enough sun. If you can put it outside at least for part of the year it would help. If you decide to do that, acclimate it gradually, starting with just a couple of hours early in the morning or late in the afternoon and build up time.
In the meantime, cut the plant back almost to the ground so it can grow new, sturdier stems.
