QuestionHi Leroy,
I read your advice to a grower in Tucson, AZ, about using a perforated plastic milk jug to automatically water potted basil during the summer. I don't understand your directions on placing a huge milk jug next to a pot so that it slowly leaks water on to the plant. How does it fit? (I live in Phx, and it's already over 90-degrees daily)
AnswerKim:
Your pot must be large enough to hold the gal. milk jug. You can use any size container that fits into the pot surface. The plant will search below for the moisture. Don't water daily, just keep moist, but not soggy. Be sure to feed it every 3 weeks and prune from the top down by 1/3 on each branch. This will cause the plant to produce more branches.
