QuestionI am moving my herb garden to another area in my yard and want to know the best time of the year to do it. I live in Columbus, Ohio. I have oregano, thyme, sage, and rosemary.
Also, I have quite afew iris in my yard but noticed last season about half of them did not bloom although they are in the same location. Do they need fertilizer?
AnswerKris:
Be sure to locate them in an eastern or south-east location when the night temps are in the 60's. I don't know about irises, but if you have never fed them I would do so this apring. When new growth has started on the herbs, prune each branch from the top down by 1/3 and do this throughout the growing season to give you more healthy growth. Feed liquid fish fertilizer at time of transplanting and every 3 weeks. Home depot/lowe's now carry this product or natural health food stores. If you find seaweed/fish fertilizer, it is better, but a little more expensive.
