Basil under attack!

Question
I've recently planted a group of herbs in a terracotta pot on my patio. within the first 24hours holes appeared in the leaves, there a couple of affected ones on my mint and one or two on the oregano but the basil seems to be nearly every leaf. The only insects we have seen out there, day or night, are earwig type things and ants could either of these be responsible for the destruction and how can i go about saving some of my basil for me to eat?

Answer
Amy-lea:
There are night raiders that do the most attacking. Worms & beetles. My home remedy is 1 tsp. of cider vinegar, garlic oil or hot sauce to a pt of water. Only use 1 tsp. of any mixture to the bottle.Spray bottm & top of leaves once every 3 days. Test a leaf first,& if it shows signs or burning, dilute a little. Give a day of observation between each application. You can go to web site called "Gardens alive.com" and they carry lots of organic products.
