QuestionI bought a Lavender plant two weeks ago. I think it's French Lavender, in a 9 inch (or thereabouts) terrocotta pot with moss on top. I brought it home and set it in a east facing window, it gets at least 5 hours of direct sunlight. I read up on proper care, and have been watering sparingly (checking soil two inches down for dryness). It has flowers. Don't know what's happening, but the leaves are turning black and crispy, very dry. Some evenings, I get home from work, and the plant is very droopy and wilting, so I have been watering it more frequently now and misting it.
I really love Lavender and spent a lot of money on this plant, it's very distressing to see it not doing well. I don't know what else to tell you except the temperature of the room is probably in the 70's (we're on the top floor with loads of windows), it's been dry lately and we live in Jersey City, NJ, right outside of NYC. Thought these conditions would be perfect for Lavender!
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.
Thanks
AnswerLauren:
Normally this is a tender lavender. They love the outdoors in the spring. They know when the weather is right for them. It takes a little work in providing the conditions indoors. I have no experience in growing lavender indoors. You sound like you have provide some of the conditions for it except over watering it. Allow it to dry, prune off all dead branches by 1/3. Add small amount of powder lime to container. Lavender loves lime. No chemical fertilizer. Use organic such as liquid fish every 3 weeks. The smell doesn't last long. Home depot/lowe's now carry it. Allow the Lord to do the rest.
Love,
