QuestionI have a basil plant outside doing very well and now that fall is approaching (I live in NY) I am wondering what I should do with it when the cold weather comes. Can I put it in a pot and keep it inside and then plant it back outside in the spring? Or do I start from scratch in the spring? This is the first year I am doing any kind of gardening so I am trying to figure it out as I go!
AnswerPat:
This is the first herb that goes at the first sign of frost. To keep in doors you must locate in a southern or eastern window or glass door. It needs 16 hours of light and temps above 70. Best is to start in spring when night temps. are in the 70's. Sow seeds in sterile potting soil and set on a heat pad for quick growth. Press seeds into soil and cover very lightly of just press into soil.
