AnswerJoan:
This is the first time I have heard of a 20 year old rosemary. I can only think of a few things that might help. The plant may have received water too late or been over watered. Rosemary hate too much water and like to be watered timely. It may have reached a level in the soil that does not have the minerals it likes. Chemical fertilizers does not do well with rosemary. Organic works better, like liquid fish fertilizer. Once they start dying back from the bottom, they usually are bound for rosemary heaven. Pruning the new growth by 1/3 off each branch sommetime will help also. Good luck Don't forget too dry cuttings in paper bag and when completely dried, place in blender & pulverize to coarse blend and place in jars and place in darkness, and give for Xmas gifts.
