QuestionI have 3 Spanish Lavender plants I planted this spring, I live in Oregon. The blooms on 2 of the plants have dried up. The leaves still look green and feel "fresh" it's the blooms that have lost all color and are now brown. Each plant has a few blooms with a couple of still purple petals. The last one of the 3 is gorgeous, it's still growing well and the blooms are so beautiful. What should I do with the ones that seem to of lost their blooms? I water them about once a week and have a few times put a liquid plant fertilizer on them.
AnswerKerri:
Lavender loves powdered lime. Add a handful around each plant & blend into the top 2" of soil. If the liquid fertilizer is miracle gro,I believe it is too strong for the plants. Either dilute it by 1/3 or use liquid fish fertilizer. It can be found at home depot, lowe's or garden center. After it blooms, cut each branch back 1/3 before sept. Good luck. The watering is good since lavender hates soggy roots.
