QuestionI recently purchased a ruffled purple basil plant, mainly because I thought it was so pretty and unusual.
Now I'm wondering if it's ok to cook with it. Should I use it like regular basil? The sticker on the plant container says it will repel garden pests. Does this mean it's not safe to eat?
Thanks so much

AnswerSandie:
Yes! basil will repel flies and some other pests. Cut branches 12" and place in vase with water. They will root and then plant them in pots. Be sure to give them full morning sun.Set on outdoor tables. The rest can be added to salads. I have not heard of making purple pesto. The flavor is different than the sweet basil.
