QuestionWhat are the best conditions for growing mint in a pot. I had a go with a pot on my window sill that got morning sun and watered it every couple of days, however the plant turned brown and looked really dry, even though the soil looked damp. Where did I go wrong?
AnswerSarah:
Mint easy to grow, but sometimes finicky. Pot should be at least 6-12 inches deep. Soil should be composted. Give morning sun and afternoon shade. Water only once a week, since we had good rain this year no hose water need. If pot is full with mint, cut thru the whole pot into 4 sections. Use 1 section, place into center of pot with fresh soil. Fertilize with an organic fertilizer once every 3 weeks and none during fall& winter. Leave outdoors all winter, it will return in the spring. Prune 1/3 of each branch until late fall. When transplanting look at roots, if they are light in color, then it is still alive.
