Drying Herbs

Question
Hello! I have an herb garden full of rosemary, thymes, basils, marjoram, oreganos, chives, and tarragon. Now that the weather is cooling, I would like to cut them and dry/store them properly for winter cooking. Can you advise? Thank you for your time!

Answer
Hi! My advice would be to cut and dry rosemary, thyme, tarragon, majoram and oregano in the same fashion.Store them in a cool, well ventilated and 80-90 fahrenheit area.Hang rosemary, in clumps of 7,majoram in clumps of 5 and tarragon and oregano in clumps of 10 from a string or your drying area.Set the thyme down on a peice or cheesecloth paper. For chives and basil, however, since they are moist they need to be perfectly dried, especially basil.Use the teqniques I have given you and follow them perfectly. Remember, keep these different plants drying in different places in the home. When they are done and ready to use, they will be crispy and not a drop of moisture in them.Drying times vary per plant. Hope this will help!
