My Rosemary bush is dying

Question
Hello.  I purchased a rosemary bush that was about 12 inches around christmas time.  It now seems to be dying.  It's leaves are very fragile and fall off at the slightest touch.  The braches are also very dry.  I do not know if this is normal or not.  I would also like to know what a good food for it and how to properly take care of it.  I read some where that it does not like the cold weather, shed some light on that for me too.

Thanks
Jonathan

Answer
HI Jonathan,

I'll try.  Rosemary is drought/heat and somewhat cool tolerant.  It's a meditteranean native so it doesnt' like freezing temps for long.

You didn't give me a lot of info.  Is the plant indoors or out?  How often do you water?  How much sun is it getting?

Rosemary requires full sun and to dry out between waterings.  In my garden the rosemary is in the ground outside and is acclimated.  I water not more than 2 a winter. During the heat of summer I water 1-2 times per week depending.

From the description you gave it is either over or underwatered.  Possibly it got to hot near a heater or something but my 1st guess is watering.

Cut it back to live branches. Brush all the dead needles off.  Put it in a well lit location and water but allow the soil to dry between waterings.

I hope that helps
Chris
