Question I just received a small Lamb's Ear plant. How do I care for it? How is Lamb's Ear used?
Thank you!
AnswerGrammy:
The lamb's ear is normally a hardy perennial. It should return each year when planted outdoors. Since it is a small plant, I would leave it ina 6" pot, located on the south side of a building and move it to the east location in the spring. It must have early, morning sun and then afternoon shade. Sometimes that take sun all day. Keep moist, but not wet, let mother nature do the watering. Be sure it is not sitting in clay soil. I am told the small leaves have a fruity scent and are added to West Indies fruit salads. The larger leaves can be used as bandages. I have seen it close the skin of a razor cut in less than a minute. Just apply like a bandage and tape it. During summer keep pulling off dead leaves to produce more and have a clean look. Don't use for fruit salads until next year when you have have more growth.
