Purple oxaclis

Question
Hi I have a charmed wine oxalis and it appears to be going dormant. I'm an apartment dweller with lots of plants and so enjoy indoor gardening. I want the oxalis to come back healthy, but I don't know what to do during the dormancy period. I'm on a high floor in a building in nyc, no garage to store this baby. Any suggestions? City water and filtered water.

Answer
Sheila,

Put it in a brown paper bag ( that will still breath, you can ask for one at the grocery store) and put it in a closet preferably on an outside wall that will be a bit cooler when the door is closed. Check it once a month and give it a tablespoon of water, no more than that. Be patient. When you see little shoots get it back out and put it on your sunniest windowsill and fertilize it well. During it's growing period fertilize it every other time you water with a water soluable fertilizer like Miracle Grow for Blooming Plants or for Roses or Tomatoes. All of those bloom and will encourage your little bulbs to bloom well. The fertilizer will help the bulbs grow and multiply for a full healthy plant that you can eventually divide. Good luck!
