QuestionThis is the first Desert Rose I have owned and have tried to follow the care instructions that I have read from various sites
My DR has only 3 stems. One is moderately firm, one that is so so firm and the 3rd had a soft stem that was falling over.
The outer layer of the plant is very soft as well and the outer layer of the root ball is also soft. You can almost peal off the layer but I have not done that.
I don't want my plant to die so if you can tell me the best solution I would appreciate it. I've read a lot on root rot but to be honest I am not sure that is what is going on.
Thank you and I look forward to your help.

AnswerKelly,
I suspect that your desert rose is already pretty well dead. It sounds like it has been overwatered and has gotten a fungal infection as a result of the overwatering. During the winter this plant should get as much sun as possible and no more than a tablespoon of water every 2 weeks. Just enough to keep the soil from being totally dry. Too much water kills this plant quickly and the symptoms you are seeing indicates too much water. You can try drying it out, giving it as much sun as possible and not watering it for a month and see what happens. That is the best you can do at this point. Cut off any sections that collapse and some portion of it may survive and sprout out new growth. Good luck~!
