QuestionI am located just south of Memphis Tenn in Mississippi called the hill country I have 2 Kimberly Queen ferns and 4 others ferns I think are rabbits foot ferns on my out side porch which is also shaded by large trees, It has been a long extra hot summer I have been (watering soaking) them about once a week they are doing great. My question is how do i winter them over?I have room for the two Kimberly inside can i put the others in the ground if so can i leave them in the containers they are in and just sink them or put them in a shed? The shed is not heated nor is there light .Should i cut them back if so when .
Thank you

You need to check with a local garden center to see which ferns can grow outside over winter in your area...I am not familiar with Kimberly Queen ferns...
I am very familiar with rabbit foot and other ferns...Rabbit foot ferns can easily be kept as indoor plants during the winter months...
Plants usually die from too frequent watering (or letting stay dry too long)...Water your plant based on how much it weighs when thoroughly watered VS when they are ready to be watered again...Most plants die from too frequent waterings, not from how much water you give them at one time. Pick the pot up and feel how heavy it is after watering it thoroughly. Don't water it again until it feels considerably lighter and the top of the soil is light in color. Spray mist your ferns a couple times per week to keep the leaves clean and the humidity higher...
Direct morning sunlight (especially up till Noon) is good for most plants. Ferns do not like direct sun lite...They just need a bright location...
Again you need to check with a local garden center before deciding what to do with your particular ferns...
Hope this helps.
