QuestionGreetings!
I read your answer to the question of how to take care of Queen of the Night. I received several leaves , different colors, of the queen of the night plan from a friend from the west coast. I live in Maryland. Since July, the leaves have sprouted some little plants. I'm excited. Now the fall is here. I did plan to bring the pots in the house. However, I have a simple question: should I put the pots where there are full of sun (like north, east or west facing) or should I put the pots at the "cool and dark" place?
Thank you for your help.
AnswerMy,
Queen of the Night is a cactus and as such requires as much sun as possible and it must dry out well between waterings. It should also be planted in sandy soil. A north facing window does not get much sun. It needs to be in an East, south or west window in that order of preference. It likes to be kept warm, it is a native of the deserts of Mexico. Queen of the night refers to the fact that it only blooms at night and the blooms wilt before dawn. You have to watch it closely for buds and sty up late to see the bloom open. They are beautiful. You can google "Queen of the Night plant" and get pictures. Good luck!
