Questiondear Darlene,
I'm mailing you from Greece, and i hope I'll find easier the answer i'm searching for in your site in US. So please excuse my english if it doen't make sense in some cases..
I' ve just planted a COCOS NUCIFERA a friend gave me from her own plant. It's a small seedling that grew next to main plant, the one with the coconut on the side.
My seedling doesn't have a coconut but it has roots. Will it grow normally?will it grow a coconut at the side as well?
thanks in advance!
AnswerValentina,
No, it will not grow a coconut on it's side. It grows out of the coconut. It could possibly be that the coconut that hers grew out of grew a second tree when her tree no longer needed it. The sprout only feeds off the coconut for awhile then it takes nutrients from the ground thru it's roots. Hopefully yours is large enough to do that. Be very careful not to keep it too wet or leave it sitting in a drain tray full of water. Leaving it sit in water will rot the roots. You did not say where you or your friend lives of whether you will be growing these palm trees indoors or out. They become 70 feet tall palm trees when planted in the ground. Indoors they get as tall as the pot they are planted in allows them to so be very careful not to plant it in too large a pot or it will outgrow your home quickly. If you have more questions write again. Good luck!
