QuestionMy corn plant is now tall with two stems on each side and leaves flowing all from the top. Previously, the leaves were getting brown spots at the ends and I kept cutting them off. I have used distilled water since and the leaves are doing great, no brown edges anymore.
Can I cut one stem and replant in the same pot just to make them look symmetrical. As of now it is like a coconut tree bending to one side, with all the leaves only at the top. Will the stem grown if I replant it? How will I care for it after replanting?
Thanks for the reply.
AnswerHi Olivia,
A photo of your Corn Plant would be useful because Corn Plants are grown in a variety of different ways. Photos can be posted here or emailed to me directly at

In general, I can tell you that any healthy stems can and should be pruned back periodically to keep the plant manageable. New growth will emerge from the cut stem just below the pruning cut and grow upward from there.
The pruned off top can be inserted in the soil of the existing pot. In general, shorter cuttings root more readily than taller ones. If I saw a photo of your plant I could give you more specific information on the appropriate cutting size. By maintaining the same moisture content in the soil that you have for the main plant you will be creating a good environment for the cutting to root and then slowly grow upward.
I have written articles on Corn Plant care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who emails a request to me at

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
