QuestionHi Darlene,
I have MandeVino. When I bought it 1,5 month ago it had lots of flowers. Now less and less. Some of the leaves are getting yellow, so I water it. But after watering 3-5 healthy flowers would fall off by next morning.
I water it 2-3/week ( 1 cup), fertilize it every 2 weeks. It gets plenty of sun, it is outside on the warm balcony, which has glass walls, having a "greenhouse" effect. The temp. (72-79 here right now on the Pacific Northwest).
What should I do to stop losing the flowers?
Thank you!
eva
AnswerEva,
Yellow leaves and dropping flowers indicate that you are either watering it too much or too little. How large a pot are we talking about? A cup of water is about enough for a 6 inch diameter pot. You should be giving it enough water so that all the soil in the pot is moist and some water goes into the drain tray under the plant. Then an hour later you should empty the excess water out of the drain tray. Then do not water the plant again until the soil feels dry and the plant feels noticeably lighter in weight. If it is 100 degrees in your greenhouse balcony it may need watered daily. I would try to open it up to cool it off a bit. If it stays 100 degrees in there it may need watered daily and you need to fertilize weekly because that much watering washes nutrients out of the soil If you let me know the diameter of the pot and the temperature inside the balcony I can further advise you. I also suggest that you get a fertilizer for blooming plants. That will help your plant produce more flowers and not all leaves. Good luck!!!!
