Question
Canna Lily
Hi again! :)
I bought a potted canna lily with 4 stocks, one which was in bloom. Since then I have repotted it and there are 3 more little stalks growing and a large one in bloom.
My question is, can I cut the first stalk, that bloomed and has started to turn brown and the leaves are yellowing, off at the dirt level?
Also some of the leaves on the other stalks are turning yellow, why is this happpening?

In your picture the plant looks good...I assume the tied-up section is the old bloom section...Do cut the stalk off at the base when and if it has turned brown...Yellow leaves are a sign usually of improper watering tecnique...I believe that's what is wrong with your plant...
Be careful how you are watering the plant...Water your plant based on how much it weighs when thoroughly watered VS when it is ready to be watered again...Plants die from too frequent waterings (or being let to go too dry for too long), not from how much water you give them at one time...Pick up or lean the pot and feel how heavy it is after watering it thoroughly... Sometimes it helps to put a saucer under the pot when watering and let the plant sit in water for 10-15 minutes...Then pour the excess off...Don't water it again until it feels considerably lighter and the top of the soil is lighter in color...You can always poke your finger into the soil if you are not sure...Depending on plant types, sunlight exposure and pot size plants will need water at many different rates from once a day to once a month or more...
Hope this helps...
