QuestionI have about 5 or 6 of these plants in my front landscaping here in SW Florida. They get plenty of sunlight and water. However, my red sister is looking more like green brother! Any suggestions? I don't use excessive amounts of fertilizer in any of my landscape gardens and when I do, it's generally 6-6-6 that I use with the exception of miracle grow sticks for my crape myrtle. My research online has told me either too much sunlight or too much water. We did have 8 days of torrential downpour here from Debby.....the tropical storm that only moved 3mph. I'm not seeing water issue with any other plant and my crape myrtle is usually the first affected by too much water. We did have a very dry spring so the ground had plenty of need!
Thanks for any advice you might offer.....greatly appreciated!
AnswerDennis,
I suggest that you be patient as the weather evens itself out a bit but assist your plants with a couple of doses of liquid Miracle Grow or the Miracle Grow sticks. That much rain that fast washed most nutrients out of the sandy soil. Also sprinkle about a 1/2 cup of Epsom salts around each plant then water it in. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate and plants need that to produce color in their leaves or blooms. Wait 2 months and give them another dose of the Epsom salts. That should perk up the color. Good luck.

PS You could some rain to Indiana. We are desperately dry here.
