Question
#1 #2
I have had this plant for almost a year. It came as part of a dish with multiple plants. The corn plant was dying so I separated this and the lemon lime plant into separate dishes. I also moved this plant 1 month agofrom a low lighted area to a sunny window because the color had become very dull. The color is much more vibrant now. A few days ago I noticed it that the plants normally flat leaves are curving inward creating tube like leaves.
I have found no helpful information on this problem. I know that when watering, water will spill from the cutouts in the dish if too much water is put on top of the soil at once. Because I wondered if this problem was caused by too LITTLE water, I watered very carefully yesterday to ensure that all the soil was hydrated, not just the top soil. When replanting, I used Miracle Grow potting mix.
AnswerHi Kimberly,
You are finding a problem where there is none. Your Snake Plant appears to be quite healthy and the curved leaves are quite normal. This curving is more likely to occur in higher light because in reduced light, the leaves flatten out in order to maximize leaf surface exposure to the limited light.
The container with cutouts is problematic because it is very difficult to water properly. Fortunately, Snake Plants withstand drought quite well, so you can probably get away wity using this planter with this particular plant. It is almost impossible to under water a Snake Plant but quite easy to inadvertently over water one.
I have written an article on Snake Plant care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who emails a request to me at
