QuestionHello there!
I have a coconutplant, a babyplant at this stage. My problem is that all the leaves gets burn and dies. Its is my third coconutplant, the first one that I grow on the French Rivieria, France got the high of 2metres on a balcony, first line to sea.
The second one is I had in Spain, Costa Blanca area and the leaves gets brown and dies. Same thing, firstline to sea and strong sun. And I mixed sole of sand 80 procent and sole 20 procent. Now I have a plant still in Costa Blanca, same place and still same problem with my third coconutplant. This time I have I have about 95 procent sand and 5 procent sole and I water maybe 3-4 times per week, directly to the roots.
And same thing happend to me with figplants. But 1 friend of mine told me that it cant first line to the sea and alot of place. I have plant on the other side away from the sea but still not growing at all.
AnswerHi Mona
I am familiar with coconut plants (trees)...I have spent a lot of time jet skiing in Florida...I always thought it was neat how they would float until they hit a sandy beach, then put out roots and the coconut would continue to grow into a tree...
They like sun so east or west exposure shouldn't matter...I am assuming your plants are in plastic pots???I am not sure what size???
I am pretty sure your problem is watering frequency(for both the coconut and fig)...Water by weight. Put a saucer under the pot. Water and let the plant sit in the excess water for 5-10 minutes. After that time pour off any excess water in the saucer. Pick up the pot. It should feel heavy. Don't water again until it feels considerably lighter in weight. Outdoors check the plants everyday. For indoor plants check them every 3-10 days. Watering frequency depends on many factors(sun exposure, type of plant, wind, day temps, etc). Most potted plants die from too frequent waterings - Not from too much water at one time..
Get to a local garden center to see what they recommend for fertilizer. There are many types of fig plants so quiz them on fig care (how much sunlite, wind exposure, etc.)for the type of fig you have...
Let me know if this helps...
