QuestionI have a jade plant that was re-potted several years ago into a pot 4" deep and 8" wide. The Jade plant is now very large and top heavy (20" high x 29" wide), it lean/rest against the window that it sits on (bay window). Should I repot it and if so what size pot? It seems that I may have waited to long to repot.
Thanks, Karen

It would help if I could see the plant (Picture)...Sounds like your jade plant is just top heavy to one side...Exterior landscape trees usually need pruning to keep them symmetrical...You should have been rotating the pot every few weeks or once a month to get even growth on all sides of the plant...It also would not hurt to trim away excess foliage as it appears on one side VS the other...Rotating the pot and proper pruning would allow the plant to stay in the same pot 5-10 years or more...Keeping it in the same size pot will help control it from getting too large too quick...
In your case I would repot the jade plant into a deeper pot (maybe a 10" wide X 8-10" deep pot)...The heavier weighted pot (with the extra soil)will help prevent it from tipping over...Do prune some branches from the side it is leaning to...Make sure you compress the new soil around the existing root ball...This also will help it from leaning...Put a 1/4" stake on each side of the trunk to help support the trunk so it does not lean to one side...Just push the stakes through the top of the rootball to the bottom of the pot...Use string or rubber bands to tie the trunk to the stakes (not too tight)...You can remove them after 6 months to a year...
Hope this helps,
