mandeville plant

Question
i had my mandeville plant outdoors, it froze and the leaves are all

falling off, can i cut it back and will it grow again.

Answer
Hi Charlotte,

Mandevillas are okay in temps close to, but not below, freezing. I am assuming that it is early enough in the season, that your plant was exposed only to a light frost, not a hard freeze. If so, then the roots, which are somewhat insulated by the soil and pot, are probably not severely damaged. That means new growth will emerge and your Mandevilla will survive.

If all of the leaves are damaged, then cut back the stems to a point just above the lowest node (the bump where the leaf stem attaches to the stem). New growth will come in at these nodes and you should eventually have a nice full and compact plant. Be sure to keep it on a sunny windowsill in your home.
