Questionhave a 30 year old jade plant was in the house all summer and was watered to much started to loose its leaves. I replanted the plant. Do they ever re-root? Is there anything I can do to save the plant.
Just got a Oriential pepper plant- how to you care for it.
AnswerAmy,
I would bet it wasn't necessarily over watered but that it did not get enough sun. If a jade does not get enough sun it doesn't use much water. Give it more light. In the summer the sun is higher in the sky so it doesn't shine in the windows as well. Move it to an east or west window where it can get more sun and do not water it until the surface of the soil has been dry for a week. You already repotted it but it should have been repotted in cactus soil. You can now go to Lowes, Home Depot or Menards and get a bag of play sand. Remove some soil from the top of the pot and replace it with sand. After a few waterings that will be washed down into the soil and it will be the same as cactus soil. A jade is a succulent and stores water in that fat trunk. It must be in a pot with a large drain hole with a drain tray under it.When you water it you must remove any excess water from the drain tray. You can do that with a turkey baster. Yes, it will grow new roots as long as the trunk is not soft and mushy and you follow my instructions on getting it more sun, only watering it when it has been dry for a week and emptying the drain tray after watering it. Good luck.
