QuestionI have a pineapple house plant. The pineapple is now yellow. I know it is time to cut it off. Need to know how to cut it off. Also, will another pineapple grow from the existing plant or is the only way to get another one growing to re-plant the top of this one.
AnswerKaren
Use a sharp serrated knife and cut the stem just above the foliage below the pineapple...
Are there any sideshoots on your pineapple plant below the pineapple fruit?..After the first fruit is produced, commercial growers use side shoots (called 'suckers') produced in the leaf axils of the main stem to grow more pineapple plants...These are true to species and found on the original plants...
When using the top foliage of an individual pineapple you get variation in the genetics of the original pineapple species...Fruits that produce seed produce a variety of different genetic combinations of new plants...Growers use asexual reproduction by taking cuttings off the original plant for this reason...
Hope this explains what you wanted to know...
Good luck
