QuestionI have put one of these plants in my living room about 12 feet from the window but have noticed that the leaves are starting to go brown. Also can you tell me how often they should be watered.
thanks
Dave
AnswerHi Dave,
Coconut Palms require a lot of direct indoor sunlight. Twelve feet from a a window is too little light even for a low light plant. Move your Coconut Palm to a place right in front of a sunny window that is uncovered throughout the day. Without adequate light, nothing else you do will matter.
The watering frequency depends on how it is potted and the type of soil used. Generally, if it is potted properly, then it should be watered as soon as the top half inch to inch of soil feels dry. If you repotted yourself, then all bets are off and there is no way to tell you how to water.
This is a difficult plant to keep indoors because it requires lots of light and is not forgiving of any watering lapses. It also does best in high humidity and is very prone to spider mite infestations.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
