My floppy Fittonia

Question
My floppy fittonia
My floppy fittonia
Hi Will,

It is me again. I found the bigger green leaves look a bit curly. Some of them even get quite dry and turn yellow. There are LED growing lights with red, blue and green color 2-3 feets above them. Is it too much light on them? or too little water? How can I avoid them getting Curly and yellow?

The pink ones below are quite weak. The left and right ones are soft and floppy but the middle one is quite strong. Quite strange!! Are the bigger green leaves cover the LED growing lighting? Do I need to cut off some big leaves or place a mirror to reflect some light on the pink ones? Is it not recommended to mix them in a tray? How can I make the floppy pink plants awake before too late?

What is your advice? Please help me save the floppy guys

Many thanks

Answer
Hi there,

Fittonias require high humidity, lots of bright indirect sunlight, tight pots and are very fussy about proper watering that keeps the soil evenly moist, but also aerated. In other words, they are very challenging plants.

Yours are not getting adequate light because they are shaded by the other plants. They may also be reacting to being transplanted into a much larger planter. It would have been less stressful to them if you had kept them in their small plastic pots and set those in the larger planter.

All you can do now is to prune back some of the larger leaves shading the Fittonias and monitor teh soil moisture level very carefully.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
