Dwarf Banana Tree Production

Question
Hello-  I was given a dwarf banana tree almost two years ago. It has grown quite large and has grown three smaller "stalks" next tot the main trunk. The tree stays indoors in my NC classroom from Sept. thru May. The kids and I are really waiting for the tree to produce bananas. I'm wondering if and when it will bear fruit? What can I do, or should I be doing to increase the chances of them seeing this happen. Any help or ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Katy,

It needs a lot of sun all year to grow bananas. They are capablee of growing bananas in 18 months if they are outside in full sun. Des the plant sit next to large windows? Where is the plant during the summer? It also needs lots of water but should not sit in a tray of water constantly. When the surface of the soil is dry it is time to water. Then empty the drain tray with a turkey baster. They are heavy feeders and need fertilizer monthly. You can feed it Miracle grow according to the dircetions on the package.

The following website has good insstructions: http://www.guide-to-houseplants.com/growing-banana-plants.html

Good luck.
