Pothos

Question
I read advice you gave that seamed excellent. I have two pothos that have always grown well and have grown long vines that encircle my dining room. I went on vacation for a month and came back to areas of the vines that have lost their leaves. Is there any way to make the vines reproduce leaves at the nodes that remain or should I cut them and start over?

Answer
Hi Kathy,

The growth hormones are only at the end of each vine. Although vines will occasionally spontaneously produce new shoots on lower nodes, that is relatively rare. So, in general, once leaves are lost along a vine they will never be replaced. The only way to eliminate long bare stems is by pruning back to the nodes where you want to see new growth emerge.

I have written an article on Pothos care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who sends a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
