Peace lilies

Question
I have three peace lilies.  One sits in an eastern window, and the other two are on a table in front of the bay window on the west side of the house.  There is a tree in the front yard, so the sun never beats in that window, rather filters in some.

All three of these plants were always nice and green and produced flowers.  Suddenly they started to have the leaves get a green-yellow marbled look.  They get more and more yellow until the entire leave is that way, then turn brown and dry up.  They are all still flowering right now.

I keep cutting off the leaves when they get quite yellow, new leaves keep coming nice and green.  I used miracle grow plant food sticks, and measured the pots to be sure I didn't use too many.

I do not want to put them in big pots as I have no place to keep three large plants.  Help.

Answer
Kathy,

I suspect that you may be keeping them too wet. To begin with they must be in pots with drain holes and draintrays underneath them. When you water the plants give them enough water so all the soil in the pot gets moist and some water goes in the drain tray. An hour after you water empty the excess water out of the drain trays and do not water the plants again until they feel very dry on top of the soil and light weight if you pick them up. A dry period for 2 days between watering allows the roots to breathe in carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen cleaning the air in the process. If the roots are constantly wet they cannot do this and the roots begin to rot and you get yellow leaves like you have. Try making sure the plant is dry for a couple of days then wet and the leaves should stop turning yellow. Good luck.
