arabian coffee house plant

Question
I have 29 house plants this is the first time I have owned something this different. Can you tell me the best care for my plant. and will it produce coffee beans?

Answer
Hi Rebecca,

Your Coffee arabica is unlikely to ever produce coffee beans for you, but you can try.

In summer, it needs bright indirect light with a few hours of morning direct sun; right in an east window is best. In winter, it can take more direct sun; a south or west window. Too much sun can cause leaves to lose their shiny luster and the leaf edges to turn brown. Water thoroughly as soon as the surface of the soil feels dry. Keep temps above 60 degrees at all times and above 64 degrees when it is in flower. Older plants (4 ? years old) that are moderately potbound will produce fragrant white flowers. If flowers are pollinated by hand, the will produce ripe, red berries about nine months later. Each berry contains two coffee beans.

As you can see, this is a challenging plant if you want beans. If you are happy with it as a nice green foliage plant, it will be more rewarding.
