Zi Zi plant care.

Question
Hello!
I found 2 ZZ plant about 2 months ago .Unfortunately, today I find some roots rot .The soil on the top and bottom of the pot is moldy, some leaves turn brown , and some new stems broken right under the top soil. Would you help me ?

Answer
Hi Kim,

ZZ Plants are among the hardiest of indoor plants. However, the one thing they do not tolerate is excessive watering and repotting. The soil needs to dry out almost to the very bottom of the pot before watering. Keeping the soil constantly moist causes the roots to rot and once that happens recovery is very unlikely. Re-potting a ZZ Plant is almost always a mistake.

Remove all soft or dead stems and remove any loose soil and mold from the surface. Refrain from watering and keep your ZZ in a sunny, warm location to encourage more rapid drying out. Perhaps, the root rot will gradually subside and your plant will gradually recover. But if the root damage is extensive, then it will not recover.

I have written an article on ZZ Plant care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who sends a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
